Do Religious People Still Think They Are The Mark of Satan?

It's been well over 10 years since I last bought a UPC code for a product and I've forgotten how easy/hard it was - so I thought maybe someone had a tip of a easy place to obtain one.

I am wanting to get used to putting UPC codes on the comic because I am really going to try and get into comic shops - which is not common for Kickstarter-based books - but I think if I can get my books to be Point-Of-Sale friendly, I will have a better shot that if I don't have anything at all. So, any insight would be appreciated!

The Quest for Add-ons

Doing variant covers myself (I'm not at a place to pay someone else for a cover yet) is obviously a challenge - but I also wanted to approach the add-ons by creating things that were unique in themselves or added a purpose.

Sticker packs are fun, but in my experience it's an uphill battle in promoting a brand that has not been established yet. So, rather than just a sticker pack, I came up with a package that not only has stickers, but a couple other useful items related to the comic: a map and a translator card.

When I was writing the comic, I had a couple different locales in the first issue - but the wider the world got, the more my brain was getting hung up on where one place was in relationship to another. Early on, I created a map which helped me keep the story straight in my mind and I was kind of amazed at how much it helped. So I decided that it actually might be kind of useful to show readers a map of the entire area - complete with places and things that will not be mentioned for awhile.

The other item is a translator card. In the book, we hear spells cast in Helspeech, which is a simple substitution cipher of letters to symbols. In the book, spells are spoken but it's only visually shown what happens - there's no 'hints' given in the wording to what the spell might do, unlike Harry Potter spells like Oculus Reparo to fix glasses. If someone wanted to take the time to decode it, they now have the card to do so.

I call this pack of stickers, map and translation card the Issue #1 Arcane Treasure Trove:

ACEO Add-on Incentives for Kickstarter (and others)?

As I am discovering a little bit more about how to approach Kickstarter, I'm working through a variety of ideas for add-ons that can ship with my future comic. The most obvious and easily obtained one is stickers, but I started working on some ACEOs of characters in the book, which I think might be good for upselling (dependent on how much time a person has for ACEO art!).

I finished three more this morning (just need to trim them all out), but in doing my pricing research (on Ebay) it seems that sold items are generally $20-$120 for those obnoxious big-boobed, giant-booty cards. I saw a nicely done Princess Leia for $72, etc, which leads me to believe that I'm just going to have to set a price.

Each ACEO takes about 90 minutes total between the various stages I have to draw, then wait and sit for the ink to cure before moving to the next stage. Given that these are new comic characters no-one knows, and it will pretty much be a random pick for the backer - does a guy make this a $40 upgrade?

Let's See your Studio Area!

An artist's studio blends personality with required functionality, I always thought it was fun to see not only how people are set up to do their work, but how they express their personality in their space.
