What is new in the Star Wars collecting news? Collectors and aficionados are welcome to stop by and check out what is going on. A lot of information will be drawn from various sources over the internet as well as I am hoping some prominent members of the collecting society (cough you know who you are cough) decide to contribute.

So Let's gooooo.

So, one part nostalgia, one part bookcase filler - I decided to pick up a Castle Grayskull. But I wanted a box. Yikes. I did not want to spend $600+ for it. So I stumbled across one that was in my preferred price range, incomplete, but still had lots of parts and a hammered box. I've got a variety of things that can help me "restore" paper products, so I thought I'd see if I could get the box square again. This is what it looked like:

Moldy, missing panels, water damaged, brittle in areas - about as trashed as you can get before actually throwing it in the trash. So I carefully slit the glued tab holding the center mass together and spread it out to see what I've got:

It was missing tabs from one end of the box, but the other end still had them. It was moldy, but old mold. I broke out the alcohol and gave it a quick wipe down. We live in Montana and it's always dry here, I'm not worried about the mold coming back or causing any future issues. I hit it real good with the steam iron and get it flimsy, then drop a bunch of weight on it to get the bow out of the box.

Next, I get some large sheets of cardboard (thanks ComicLink!) and make a template for each side of the box, cut and score all the seams.

Then apply a fair amount of glue, put the new cardboard templates in place over the old beat up original box and place my old typewriter, yearbooks and whatever else heavy I can find on it overnight. Doing this twice to each side. Now time for assembly and hope that I measured right!

This isn't expert-level restoration, mind you. Going for shelf appeal. The cardboard reinforcement worked great. I had something fresh and solid to hold it together and I used bookbinding tape (super strong!) to hold all the tabs together as I put it together. I left the top flap open in case I ever need to actually put the Castle Grayskull back into it, so it's not sealed all the way around. It's still hammered, but it's nice and square. I may get ambitious and try to touch up the bad areas with paint - not sure yet. I'll leave that for when I'm bored. But, in the meantime - looks great on top of the shelf!

So just be careful in case they post other collectible stuff, don't fall into the same trap I did. They are FRAUDULENT, THIEVING, SCAMMERS. ATTEMPTED CARD THEFT.

I have parted with the majority of my figures and vehicles. However, this thread deserves to be here. Celebrate all things GI Joe ARAH and GI Joe Classified. Throughout the thread, I will post some relevant information and things to look for.

I am looking to sell the majority of my collectibles, using eBay sold items as my guide to FMV, I determined that FMV is about $1300.00 to $1400.00, however, there are no auctions for these items, only BIN, so I averaged what folks paid for these items in or close to the same condition as mine.

I was asking $1000.00 and no takers, my question then becomes, is my assessment of FMV and/or my price too high.

Once I know the thread is OK here, I will post pics.

Heck, I think the the header of this area should have STATUES in the title too!

Most of what I have are Bowen pieces, but there are a lot of custom pieces and ones from other companies.
