Tales of Monkeys Fighting Robots #1

As mentioned in prior posts, my primary comic collecting interest is the Bronze Age, particularly Marvel books. However, I am always open to adding other interesting or unique comics to my personal collection. My most recent unique addition is the CGC graded 9.6 copy of Tales of Monkeys Fighting Robots #1, signed by writer Matthew Sardo and signed and sketched by artist Jamie Jones, pictured above. When I say this book is unique, it is the only copy on the CGC census, either Universal or Signature Series.

I got this book by supporting Sardo and Jones’ Kickstarter campaign. The pair of creators produce an online weekly Tales of Monkeys Fighting Robots comic strip. The purpose of their successful Kickstarter campaign was the publication of a collection of the first 20 weekly strips of Tales of Monkeys Fighting Robots in an 8.5″ x 5.5″ comic at a 1:1 ratio of the original art.

The reward at my pledge tier was “a blank variant of Tales of Monkeys Fighting Robots #1 with a head sketch by Jamie Jones of one member of Team Robot.” Upon making the pledge, I reached out to the creators to see if they would consider submitting the signed and sketched book to either CGC or CBCS in order to obtain a yellow label on my copy. As Sardo and Jones are Florida residents, they agreed to send it to CGC – their home state grading company. I paid the additional grading and shipping costs, and the rest is history – a one of a kind collectible!!

Thanks to Matthew Sardo and Jamie Jones for going the extra mile to make this CGC slabbed copy happen for me, and congrats to them on their successful Kickstarter campaign. Check out new Tales of Monkeys Fighting Robots web strips every Sunday at monkeysfightingrobots.com.
