Destination Terrificon

So… I just ordered tickets to attend Terrificon at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT on Friday August 9th with my son, Jacob. He’ll be headed off to college the following week, so the trip to Terrificon will be a great opportunity for us to spend some time together.

The draw for us to head over from Albany is the scheduled appearance of the Infinity Gauntlet creative team, Jim Starlin, George Perez (Fri only), Ron Lim, and Joe Rubinstein, at the event. The plan is to have some books signed by the creators and submitted to CGC at the show in order to get their Signature Series label.

While the show is still a couple of months away, I’ve started to plan what we’ll bring over to get signed. Likely to be included are:
Silver Surfer #34, which re-introduced Thanos

Silver Surfer #46 – the return of Adam Warlock

Thanos Quest #1

Infinity Gauntlet #1

All of the above named issues are in great condition, so I’ll be looking forward to see how they fare through the autographing and CGC evaluation process.

I’ll also be selecting some additional Marvel and DC issues featuring George Perez art for his signature.

Perhaps the item that I’ll be bringing over that is most meaningful to me is The Death of Captain Marvel. My copy isn’t perfect. I’ve owned it for 37 years, and it’s been read a few times. Nonetheless, I’ll be thrilled to get Jim Starlin’s signature on it. Whenever anyone asks for a recommendation on a single book/issue to read, The Death of Captain Marvel will always be my answer.

Moving on to the Mutants, I’m also looking forward to getting the New Mutants Graphic Novel (MGN #4), and New Mutants #1 signed by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod. Another possibility is getting Jim Steranko’s signature on my copy of X-Men #50 – an all-time classic cover featuring Polaris.

These books are the most likely to make the trip to Terrificon, pending some number crunching to see what my CGC submission budget will support!!

Check back in August for an update on our experience at the show.
