CBCS Private Signings Update

In recent months, I’ve posted about the various private mail-in signings that have emerged this year due to COVID related show cancelations. I’ve previously mentioned that I have memberships with both CGC and CBCS, and which company that I submit to depends on the opportunities and circumstances. In these recent signings, I have submitted more comics to CBCS because of opportunity and circumstance. Namely, the ability to have books signed by multiple creators, and to submit books for signature by a variety of creators on a single invoice, thereby saving on return shipping costs. That’s not to say that I haven’t sent anything to CGC for their signing events, but I’ll save that discussion for another post.

CBCS’ events involved shipping the books to the respective creators for signing. Hence, if a book was to be signed by multiple creators, shipping to/from would occur sequentially. The first group of books that I submitted to CBCS back in April included those to be signed by Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Tom King, Donny Cates, and Ryan Stegman. Knowing the process outlined above, I understood it would take some time, and I was prepared to be patient.

If you follow Greg Capullo on Insta, you can see how much work he’s been putting into Death Metal, and I’m sure Ryan Stegman has been equally consumed penciling the upcoming King in Black. Not taking anything away from the writers, but the artists on these events clearly put in a lot of hours in order to keep them on schedule. Accordingly, I understand that their “day jobs” are their top priority, even if it means a bit more delay in signing my comics!!!

Earlier today, CBCS Signature Programs Manager Matt Edwards posted an update about the signing events on the company’s Signature Programs Facebook page. A copy of that post appears below for your reference.

Matt Edwards subsequently emailed to let me know that all books I submitted for Snyder, Capullo, King, Cates and Stegman had been signed and will now be on their way to CBCS headquarters in Dallas for grading. Matt was kind enough to include a “group photo” of my books signed in this round (featured pic of this post), and a separate pic showing Tom King’s signature on Batman 77 (below).

I requested each of these books to be press screened before grading, so it is again understood that it will be sometime before I see them. I’ll post pics of the books when eventually back from grading. I also have a 20 comic order out for the Tynion/Mattina/Parrillo/Cohen/Lee signings, so I’ll post updates, and end results of those when I get them back as well. In the meantime, I’ll be on the lookout for CBCS’ next signing announcements, so check back for more news on those soon!!
